Ine Kusumoto (Siebold) 楠本いね

Ine Siebold/Kusumoto 1827-1903
The first female doctor of western medical in Japan.
There are many references and it doesn’t tell the same story. Details of her parents, are controversial. But is true that she was qualified physician. She attended various classes and assisted in operations at the medical school. Many references mentions that she was raped by fellow doctor who envied her, and this forced her to became midwife. Ine had a daughter, who also aimed to be a doctor,,but tragedy, unforgivably, also been raped by another fellow doctor. Again, there are many story about first female doctor, difficult to know what really happened. But considering that woman were not allowed to take exam until 1884 in Japan. We can only imagine how many had lost their lives unnecessarily and so many others had been shadowed by “fellow doctors” who believed in men’s only world.
